Photo of the Day, December 9, 2008

This photo is one of my current favorites. I had a blast hanging out on the lawn of the Adler Planetarium with these rambunctious boys. This is pretty much the only photo I got of all four of them looking at the camera. Thank goodness for fast shutters and lenses! While I adore every photo I captured of these guys, I love how this one displays the unique personalities of each in one shot.

I made it black and white to give it a more nostalgic feel. The yellow tint adds a warm tone, echoing the sunny autumn day. If you are at all familiar with the Adlers grounds, you'll know this rock is actually split in to two separate pieces. I wanted just one image where the boys didn't have a physical distance between them, so I did a little Photoshop magic and brought the rock, boys, and background landscaping closer together. Of course, I offered the client both options--the artistic/Photoshopped version and the original with the split rock. If I add "creative touches" to an image, I generally also offer the original since eveyone's tastes and expectations are different.

One piece of advise I need to remember for the future: Be sure to check the Bears home schedule and NOT shoot anywhere on the Museum Campus on game day!! Silly me.
