Photo of the Day, March 19, 2009

These brave folks are not only cool for dressing like pirates, but also because they jumped in to 35 degree waters in an effort to raise funds for Special Olympics Chicago and Special Children's Charities. The large icy, snow mounds in the background might give some sort of clue to just how frigid the water was (since the glee on their faces doesn't show it).

Every year people in Chicago, surrounding suburbs, and around the US take part in this annual freeze fest as a way to raise awareness and money for a great organization. I am so lucky and proud to be a volunteer Photographer for the Chicago Special Olympics, photographing many of their sporting events and athletes. And I am happy to photograph the Polar Plunge rather than participate!

Best,
Brigette
