I hope your new year is off to a great start. And I especially want to congratulate all the newly engaged couples.
As my photography business has grown in the past year, I have been able to better asess my Clients' needs and budgetary concerns. I've also been able to get a better look at the costs of operating a full-time wedding/events/portraits photography business. Many people try to choose a Photographer based first on pricing, and wonder why a professional's rate are so high.
Allow me a brief moment to explain... First, working digital is not *free* because I'm not constantly buying film. There are costs associated with web domains, servers and hosts, association fees, marketing, advertising, file storage, equipment, software, upgrades, printing costs, ink/paper/materials costs, space rent, utilities, internet, phone bills, business insurance, etc. And let's not forget one-third of my prices go towards taxes! Hopefully, after all that, I've managed to put a few dollars away for groceries, health insurance, student loans, and maybe a snappy new haircut.
Most importantly, the reason many people enjoy my work has a lot to do with the time and care I put in to each photo assignment. I spend approximately 30-50 hours per wedding and about 5-10 hours per portrait session on editing and retouching each and every photo. It is my number one goal to ensure you are 100% satisified with the results of your photo investment. You choose a Photographer like me because you want a high-end, glamorous look at a very reasonable rate. Most Chicago Photographers offering the quality and services I do cost nearly twice as much.
With that said, I have rolled out new pricing for 2009 that reflects all of the above.
