Photo of the Day, April 13, 2009

Sometimes an unplannedm fun daytrip can yield unexpectedly intriguing photos. I had never been to Milwaukee and had no idea what interesting attractions I might come across on a spontaneous roadtrip last week. I'd previously seen stock photos of the super cool, postmodern Art Museum architecture exteroir. But when I arrived, I had no idea how amazing the interior was!

This photo reminds me of what it might look like to live under an iceburg. The amount of sun and the sky and water colors outside dictate the tone of the interior. This day, there was a vibrant blue sky and cool turquoise Lake Michigan waters to cast this serene interior hue. At first, I was hoping to get a photo without people. But upon review, I like the silhouettes and how they indicate the size and scale of this cathedral-like glass structure. Plus, I'm not an abstract Photographer; I like the human element in my photos.

I certainly have a newfound respect for highly talented architecture and interior photographers. Balancing interior colors and exterior light is a tough trick. It took me a few tries at this shot and a bit of post-production to get the photo to look tonally balanced. Not sure if I pulled it off here, by architectural photo standards. But, nonetheless, I love the color and results of this image.

Happy Road tripping. Don't forget your camera!
